The Ministry of Electricity of Iraq plans to award up to 5 GW of solar energy capacity to interested foreign companies in 2023. The details of the new projects are yet to be finalized.
Currently, Iraq has signed a multi-billion-dollar deal with Total Energy of France, Abu Dhabi-based Masdar, and other companies to develop seven major solar power stations across the country. Plans have been unveiled in recent months for a number of large solar photovoltaic (PV) parks such as the 750 MW and 150 MW solar PV farms in Al Muthanna and Al Anbar provinces, respectively.
