Southern Iraq's Al-Muthanna Governorate plans to build two solar parks with a combined capacity of 630 MW to support the province's energy supply.

One of the solar farms, with a capacity of 130 MW, will be constructed in the Al-Khidhir district. The land for the plant has been provided by the local government, and the project has been assigned to the companies that will carry it out.

The second project, a 500 MW solar farm, has been awarded to Chinese firms, who are already working on it. The facility will be built on an 8,000-dunam (2,000-hectare) plot of land near the Samawa combined-cycle power plant.
