HH2E and MET Group have announced a joint proposal to invest in more than 1 GW of electrolyzer capacity in the eastern state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern on Germany’s Baltic coast by 2030.
The partners have founded a new company called H2 Lubmin GmbH that will be responsible for the development, construction and operation of a 100MW power-to-X facility in Lubmin. By 2025, 100 MW of additional input capacity will be added, and by 2030 the facility will have the capacity of 1 GW. Once operational, the facility will be able to produce 6,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year, while in the second phase, the production will reach more than 60,000 tonnes of green hydrogen, helping avoid 800,000 tonnes of direct CO2 emissions annually.
The construction of the first 100 MW phase is set to begin in 2023. Commissioning of the first phase of the project is scheduled for 2025. The second stage is seen to be completed in 2030.
