Taiwan’s Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) review committee has given approval for BlueFloat Energy’s 1 GW floating offshore wind project (Winds of September) in Taiwan.
The Winds of September project, named after the powerful winds prevalent in the Hsinchu region every September, is positioned 25 km offshore, covering an area of approximately 125 sq km in water depths ranging from 64 to 96 m. In March 2023, BlueFloat Energy installed a floating Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) system at the site to collect local metocean data, including wind, wave, and current information. BlueFloat Energy's inaugural project in Taiwan is the 1 GW floating offshore wind farm. This venture aligns with the Round 3 offshore wind tenders in Taiwan, aimed at developing wind farms that will be operational between 2026 and 2035. This initiative will contribute significantly, adding a total of 15 GW of new capacity during this period.
