Greencoat UK Wind has entered into an agreement to purchase a 42 MW wind project in South Lanarkshire, Scotland from BayWa. The deal for the Dalquhandy wind park, which will be completed with cash reserves and is expected to close in May, will cost approximately GBP50 million (US$62.11 million).
The wind park, situated near Coalburn in the Scottish Highlands, is home to 10 Vestas V136 4.2 MW turbines, with an estimated output capacity sufficient to cover the energy consumption of nearly 34,000 homes annually. Of its total generation, around 80% is contracted to British Telecom (BT) under a virtual power purchase agreement (PPA) signed in October 2022, while the rest has not yet been committed.
This latest acquisition from BayWa will take Greencoat's net generating capacity to 1,652 MW, distributed across 46 wind farms. Furthermore, the firm's purchase of the wind park will help chart a course for the UK in its mission to decarbonise its economy.
