Global Energy Ventures (GEV), now Provaris Energy, has received essential regulatory approvals allowing planning for the construction of a 2.8 GW renewable green hydrogen project on Melville Island in the Northern Territory, in Australia.
The Tiwi H2 project will include a 2.8 GW solar PV array, a 30 km electricity transmission line, and a green hydrogen and production facility at Port Melville. Production and export infrastructure for the Tiwi H2 project will be capable of producing up to 100,000 tonnes per annum of green hydrogen.
The company has received continued support from the Munupi landowners and the Tiwi Plantation Corporation and was granted several permissions that allow the complete company’s submission with the Northern Territory Environment Protection Authority (NT EPA). Permissions were also secured to increase the land available for the project with 2,580 hectares now available for solar generation, 120 hectares for transmission, and 72 hectares for the production and export facility.
The project is planned to be operational in 2026.
