The Australian state of New South Wales has granted planning approval to Origin Energy for the planned 700 MW/2,800 MWh Eraring battery energy storage system located about 40 km southwest of Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia.
The project represents about AUD800 million (US$566.60 million) of investment and will be implemented in three phases. It will consist of lithium-ion batteries with the construction phase expected to last for about 54 months. The design of the energy storage system also includes a new 330-kV overhead transmission line.
