The State Government of New South Wales has given planning approval to Origin Energy Ltd to develop a 700 MW/2,800 MWh energy storage project located 40 km southwest of Newcastle, in the Lake Macquarie.
The project will be equipped with an Eraring lithium-ion battery system expected to dispatch a duration of four hours of storage replacing the to-be-retired Eraring coal-fired power station.
The project represents a total investment of about AUD800 million(US$555.2 million). It is planned to be developed in three phases, with a construction period to last about 54 months.
