Fortis Renewable Energy has signed a mandate letter with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development for potential financing of the 270MWp Sremska Mitrovica solar plant and 72MWh storage system in Serbia.
The Sremska Mitrovica development is set to become the largest solar PV plant in Serbia and rank among the biggest in the Western Balkans. Situated about 80 kilometres northwest of Belgrade, Sremska Mitrovica is one of the country’s most historically important cities, built on the site of the ancient Roman capital of Sirmium, which was once a प्रमुख centre of the late Roman Empire. The facility is projected to produce more than 365 GWh of renewable electricity each year—enough to supply over 105,000 households—while cutting roughly 182,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, a reduction comparable to planting nearly nine million trees every year. Construction is scheduled to begin in Q3 of 2026, with commissioning planned for Q1 of 2028.
