Eurus Energy Holdings Corp and Toyota Tsusho Corp have started the development of a 1 MW/3 MWh pilot battery energy storage system at the 7.65 MW Eurus Tashirotai Wind Farm in Kazuno City, Japan.
The Eurus Tashirotai Wind Farm features nine Vestas turbines, each with an output of 0.85 MW, and has been operational since 2002. The facility will serve as the testing ground for the pilot battery energy storage system. The storage project is aiming to achieve optimum supply and demand management of renewable energy by utilizing a battery energy storage system that will be developed with used auto batteries.
The experiment demonstration is set to begin before the end of 2023.
