Enerparc AG has completed its first hybrid project in northern Germany. The system comprises a 35 MW solar photovoltaic plant combined with an 8 MWh battery, which is capable of charging and discharging at over 12 MW, roughly equivalent to the energy needs of a family of four for two years. This hybrid system has been connected to the power grid in Buettel, Schleswig-Holstein, and was the result of the company's success in the innovation tender round of the Federal Network Agency in September 2020.
This hybrid system is a significant step forward in Germany's fight against climate change as it helps to reduce the country's reliance on fossil fuels. The battery component of the system is situated in six 40-foot containers that provide substantial flexibility to the grid by enabling it to store and discharge surplus power at any time of the day. This innovation is an example of how renewable energy sources can be used to help to mitigate climate change.
The Buettel solar park's power would be sold to Axpo under the purchase agreement (PPA) under a base load.
