The Haina Electricity Generating Company (EGE Haina) and the Elecnor company have signed an agreement for the construction of the Sunflower Solar Park, located in the Yaguate municipality, San Cristóbal province, which will have a capacity to 120 MW peak power.

This new photovoltaic power plant will be the largest in the Dominican Republic and will increase the capacity of the country's solar projects by 64%.

The work will be built on a land of 220 hectares, where solar irradiation is higher than the average of the Dominican Republic.

The project will include the installation of some 300,000 photovoltaic modules, a power substation of 150 MVA and a transmission line of 10 KM in length at 138 kV. It is expected to generate 240,000 MWh each year, enough to supply the annual demand of approximately 100,000 homes and prevent the emission into the atmosphere of 150,000 tons of CO2, as well as the import of 400,000 barrels of oil.

The 120 MW peak power capacity of the Sunflower Solar Park will supply the annual demand of approximately 100,000 homes. The Sunflower Solar Park is scheduled to be operational by the first quarter of 2021.
