Energias de Portugal SA (EDP) has commissioned its 5 MW floating solar photovoltaic (PV) farm located on the Alqueva Reservoir dam in Portugal.
The EUR6 million (US$6.08 million) project includes 12,000 panels spread across a 4 ha area. The company estimates that the floating PV plant can produce 7.5 GWh per year which is enough to meet the needs of more than 30% of the families in the municipalities of Portel and Moura.
EDP also intends to install a 1 MW/2 MWh battery storage system on the site.
