EDP Energias do Brasil SA, a unit of Energias de Portugal (EDP), has started the commercial operation of the 6.62 MWp solar photovoltaic projects in Brazil that are built for Arcos Dorados, an operator and franchisee of fast-food restaurant chain McDonald's in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The projects are composed of one installed solar array in the state of Sao Paul and two in Minas Gerais. EDP Brasil has invested a total of BRL28.3 million (US$5.24 million) to develop about 16,200 solar PV panels that are installed on solar trackers.
Arcos Dorados will purchase the energy produced from the plant under a 12-year agreement. The three solar arrays are expected to generate about 11.73 GWh of energy per year. The entire output of the solar farms will be certified as renewables in accordance with the I-REC Standard.
Hydro Rein, Equinor and Scatec have signed a PPA for the Mendubim solar project in the state of Rio Grande do Norte in Brazil.
