EDF Renewables do Brasil, a subsidiary of EDF Group, has signed a protocol of intent with the Brazilian Paraiba State for the planned construction of a 237.5 MW Phase 2 of the Serra do Serido onshore wind farm in Brazil.
The expansion project´s initial investment is BRL1 billion (US$209.35 million). The construction of Phase 2 is scheduled to start in June, 2022.
EDF Renewables has begun work on Phase 1 of the Serra do Seridó wind farm in mid-2021, with a similar investment of BRL1 billion (US$209.35 million) and an installed capacity of 242 MW. It is estimated that both Phase 1 and 2 will avoid around 400 thousand tonnes of CO2 emissions per year, an equivalent of the emission of more than 110 thousand cars in circulation per year.
