Ireland’s national planning authority has approved permission for EDF’s up to 50 MW Seskin wind farm proposal in County Carlow, Ireland. An Coimisiún Pleanála has approved turbines reaching up to 180 metres in height, with rotor diameters ranging from 149 to 155 metres. The development will maintain a 720-metre setback from each turbine to the closest dwelling and will link to the electricity network through a 38 kV underground cable connected to the existing 110 kV substation in Kilkenny. The permission covers a seven-turbine configuration, and EDF anticipates bringing the project into commercial operation by 2029.
The project will also include access tracks, a substation, battery storage containers, a temporary construction compound, a permanent meteorological mast, underground cabling and a grid connection which links the wind farm to the national electricity grid.
