Budimex, a unit of Ferrovial, and EDF Renewable Poland, a subsidiary of EDF Group, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to partner on a 50/50 basis and to jointly develop offshore wind farm projects in Poland.
The Polish Government plans to increase the share of renewable energy by harnessing the potential energy generation through offshore wind projects in the Baltic Sea. The signed MoU is part of the second phase of Polish offshore development that has identified 11 new sites for the construction of wind farms.
The capacity of the planned investments in the second phase is expected to reach 11 GW. The renewable assets are expected to provide a new energy source and reduce the share of coal in power generation.
