The Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) and Oman Environmental Service Holding Company S.A.O.C (be'ah) have signed a memorandum of cooperation for the development of a waste-to-energy plant in Barka, Oman.
The company will build the project, which will be the first waste-to-energy plant in the country. The project is expected to become a powerful player in Oman’s plans to diversify energy and shift towards renewable sources. The capex cost of the plant is approximately US$1 billion.
The estimated daily capacity of the plant is 4,500 tons of municipal waste. Once operational, the project will reduce the carbon footprint of landfills by 50 mil tons in 35 years.
