El Salvador's Lempa River Hydroelectric Executive Commission (Grupo CEL) has begun construction of a 17 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Talnique, La Libertad department, El Salvador.
The Talnique PV farm will feature 29,600 bifacial solar modules that will provide enough electricity to supply around 25,000 Salvadoran homes when it becomes operational in December 2023. Through a long-term public power purchase agreement, the generated power will be sold to the wholesale electricity market.
The 17 MW project requires a US$20 million public investment.
