El Salvador's state Río Lempa hydropower commission, Grupo CEL, is engaged in the generation and sale of electric power from hydropower plants. Founded in 1945, the company owns and operates the Guajoyo, Cerrón Grande, 5 de Noviembre and 15 de Septiembre hydropower plants, all located along the Lempa river.
Grupo CEL is also involved in the development of new renewable energy projects. Grupo CEL has four subsidiaries: geothermal energy development firm Geotérmica Salvadoreña (LaGeo), distributor Empresa Transmisora de El Salvador (ETESAL), investment company Inversiones Energéticas (INE), and power generation firm Compañía Eléctrica Cucumacayán (CECSA).
