The government of Togo has signed a 25-year concession agreement with France's EDF and Meridiam to develop a 64 MW photovoltaic solar power plant in Sokode, central Togo.
The French team will handle the design, construction, financing, and operation of the power plant, with construction slated to commence in mid-2024. The facility is intended to provide energy to over 700,000 residents in Sokode and neighboring rural areas. In December 2019, the Togolese Agency for Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy initiated a prequalification request for the design, financing, construction, and operation of the Sokode plant through the World Bank's Scaling Solar program.
