AMEA Power LLC has commenced the construction of a 20 MW expansion of the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Solar Power Plant in Togo. The project located in the village of Blitta will include the installation of a battery energy storage system, providing a reliable source of clean energy. The plant will have a total generating capacity of 70 MW, making it West Africa's largest solar power plant to date. The development is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

The Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Solar Power Plant will now consist of three phases, with AMEA Power LLC providing US$10 million in financing for the project's second phase. The Abu Dhabi Exports Office (ADEX) has also granted a US$25 million loan for the third phase of expansion.

The solar power expansion project is a significant step towards the country’s goal of increasing its power capacity through renewable energy sources, thereby reducing its reliance on fossil fuels. The new solar power plant will provide a reliable and affordable energy source for the people of Blitta and the surrounding areas. It will contribute to the nation’s economic growth and increase jobs in the renewable energy industry, as well as address the issue of energy poverty in Togo.
