AMEA Power announced the expansion of the third phase of the Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Solar Power Plant from 50 to 70 MW and the addition of a battery storage system in Blitta village, Togo.
This initiative, aligned with Togo's National Development Plan aiming for universal electricity access by 2030, is set to power more than 222,000 households. It incorporates a 4 MW Battery Energy Storage System to ensure continuous clean energy supply to the grid at night.
Under the financing agreement, the Abu Dhabi Exports Office (ADEX) will provide the Togolese Ministry of Economy and Finance with a US$25 million loan for the expansion and battery storage addition, facilitated by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD). AMEA Technical Services, a subsidiary of AMEA Power, will construct the project. Phases 1 and 2 were completed within 18 months during the pandemic and became operational in June 2021; AMEA Technical Services now manages the solar plant's operations and maintenance.
