Colbún SA has approved an investment of US$850 million to start the construction of the Horizonte Wind Project. The wind farm will have an installed capacity of 778 MW and will be located approximately 130 kilometers from Taltal, in the Antofagasta Region, Chile.
Horizonte, whose Environmental Impact Study was approved at the end of August 2021, will be the largest wind farm in Chile and Latin America. Through the installation of 140 wind turbines, the project contemplates an average annual generation of 2,400 GWh, equivalent to the consumption of more than 700 thousand homes.
The future operation of Horizonte, projected in 2024, will avoid the emission of 1,200,000 tons of CO2 per year, which is equivalent to taking more than 300 thousand cars from circulation annually or planting 2,400,000 trees.
For the supply of the wind turbines, Colbún has signed an agreement with the German company Enercon.
