Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has agreed to acquire from Bowen River Utilities and Renewable Energy Partners the AUD5 billion (US$3.34 billion) Bowen Renewable Energy Hub in Queensland, Australia.
The massive undertaking will be termed the Capricornia Energy Hub. It will include 1.4 GW of pumped storage hydropower facilities, 500 MW of wind turbines, over 1 GW of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels, and a 200 MW electrolyzer. By 2028, the initial phase of the project will add 750 MW/12,000 MWh of storage capacity. The second phase of the scheme will increase storage capacity by 12,000 MWh.
CIP intends to collaborate with CS Energy.
