BASF and X-ELIO have signed a 12-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) in which the 72 MW Liberty solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Houston will provide 48 MW of solar energy to BASF's Verbund plant in Freeport, Texas, USA.

The solar farm will provide 137 GWh of sustainable energy annually and also includes a 60 MW energy storage system. The project will further cut carbon emissions at the BASF Freeport facility and yearly offset more than 82,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions.

The solar PV project is anticipated to become operational by 2024
