Axpo’s 24.8 MW Lålax wind farm facility has commenced operations, located in the municipality of Vörå, in the country’s western Ostrobothnia region, Finland.

The Lålax wind farm comprises four Vestas wind turbines, each with a rated output of 6.2 MW and a hub height of 134 metres. With a combined total capacity of 24.8 MW, annual production is expected to be around 70 million kilowatt hours (70 GWh),  equivalent to the needs of approximately 9,300 Finnish four-person households. The electricity generated is fed into the transmission grid via a dedicated substation, also built by Axpo. Development and construction of the wind farm were managed by the Axpo wind team in Vaasa, located just 25 km from the site. This represents a major achievement for the Finnish project team, which was established in 2022.

With the commissioning of the Lålax wind farm, Axpo is setting the stage for additional projects in Finland. The company plans to grow its wind portfolio in the country through both acquisitions and its own developments. Across Europe and Switzerland, Axpo is engaged in the full wind energy value chain—covering project development, construction, operation of onshore wind farms, and the marketing of the power they produce.

Axpo leverages the strong expertise of its subsidiary Volkswind, which has been part of the Group since 2015. Together, Axpo and Volkswind have delivered more than 90 wind farms in Germany and France, with a combined installed capacity exceeding 1,600 MW. At Lålax, the electricity produced is traded on the power exchange by Axpo Nordic, the Group’s subsidiary focused on the Nordic and Baltic markets. Recognized as a pioneer in power purchase agreements (PPAs), Axpo Nordic currently manages around 24 TWh of renewable energy annually. This close collaboration among subsidiaries underscores Axpo’s ability to develop, operate, and market renewable energy effectively.
