Siemens Energy and Iemants have begun the assembly and fit-out of the offshore substation platform and jacket foundation for the 1100 MW Inch Cape Offshore Wind at the Smulders yard in Wallsend, Newcastle, UK.

A collaboration between Siemens Energy and Iemants, a subsidiary of Smulders, forms the consortium entrusted with delivering the offshore substation for the Scottish project situated 15 km off the Angus coast. Siemens Energy is also overseeing the design and construction of the project's onshore substation in Cockenzie, East Lothian. The activities at the Wallsend yard will encompass the fit-out and assembly of the platform, utilizing Siemens Energy's offshore transformer module technology, along with its jacket foundation. Inch Cape's onshore substation, spanning 2.6 ha, has already commenced construction on the former Cockenzie Power Station site, situated near the existing transmission network connection. The wind farm is under the ownership of Inch Cape Offshore Wind, a joint venture between Red Rock Power and ESB, with installation at the wind farm site anticipated in 2025.
