Romania’s National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE) has approved the Phase 2 expansion of the VIFOR Wind Farm, located in Romania’s Buzau county in the communes of Costesti, Gheraseni, Smeeni, Pogoanele, Luciu, Tintesti, and Cilibia, increasing its total capacity to 461 MW, up from the initial 192 MW of Phase 1.
Rezolv Energy chose this location in 2022 due to its proximity—just 12 km—to the Carpathian Mountains, which contribute to consistently strong wind conditions. To optimize energy production, the project will incorporate advanced technology, including top-tier wind turbines and 400 kV high-voltage overhead lines, enabling a cost-efficient connection to the grid.
The second phase of the project will see the addition of 42 wind turbines, with commissioning planned for Q2 of 2027. This builds on the initial phase—currently under construction—which includes 30 turbines rated at 6.4 MW each and is set to begin operations by the end of 2025. Once fully operational, the complete wind farm will produce enough electricity to supply over 700,000 homes.
