Amp Energy has selected Iron Road to construct a green hydrogen project on South Australia's Cape Hardy Port Precinct. The project aims to establish South Australia as a leading producer of green hydrogen and ammonia in the global market. Amp Energy is developing 20 GW of electrolyser capacity across three precincts in Australia, equivalent to the production of 19 million metric tons per year of green ammonia. Amp Energy's integrated model of owning and optimizing feedstock generation assets, transmission, processing, and export will enable the delivery of cost-competitive hydrogen production globally.

The strategic geographic location of the Cape Hardy project and the South Australia government's support led Amp Energy to choose the project. The Cape Hardy site has access to high voltage power through existing transmission infrastructure and a deep-water port that will enable the transportation of the hydrogen product. In addition, both the Barngala people (the Traditional Owners of the land) and the Eyre Peninsula landowners have a close relationship with the project.

Amp Energy aims to develop and establish up to 5 GW of electrolyser capacity over the next decade in the precinct, producing over 5 million metric tons per year of green ammonia. This will create 4,800 direct and indirect construction jobs and 250 direct and indirect operational roles when scaled to this degree. Amp's goal is to produce green hydrogen at competitive worldwide pricing while also helping South Australia meet its green hydrogen objectives. The Australian Government has already disclosed AUD25 million (US$16.8 million) for the further development of port infrastructure, indicating their solid support of the project.
