Ameresco and utility Bright Canyon Energy have started the construction of the 42 MW Kupono solar photovoltaic facility with 168 MWh battery energy storage facility located at the Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam West Loch Annex on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, USA.
The facility will have a lithium-ion battery energy storage system for a four-hour duration that will provide supply to Hawaiian Electric’s (HECO) grid under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA). The project will be developed by Kūpono Solar Development Company, a joint venture company of Ameresco and Bright Canyon Energy.
The construction is expected to be finalized in early 2024.
