Alinta has submitted construction plans for a proposed 90 MWac solar farm at Port Hedland, as part of its strategy to integrate additional renewables and storage into a gas-dominated grid.

The 90 MW solar farm, which will be built near the company's Port Hedland gas plant and a proposed 60 MW/120 MWh battery system, would most likely be built in two stages, with 40 MW going up first and the rest following.

The development application was submitted to the Western Australian Environmental Protection Authority at the same time as the battery installation was approved.
