Air Liquide has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with subsidiaries of China Three Gorges. Under the long-term PPA, Air Liquide will purchase 200 MW of renewable power per year in China from wind and solar projects. The agreement, which will begin in January 2024, highlights Air Liquide's commitment to lead the way in the energy transition and to lower its carbon footprint.
The generated electricity will come from wind and solar farms located in the province of Jiangsu. Renewable electricity is expected to reduce up to 120,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year, equivalent to the electricity-related emissions of more than 300,000 Chinese households. This reduction will help Air Liquide in achieving its goal of reducing its carbon intensity by 30% between 2015 and 2025, in line with its ADVANCE strategic program.
Renewable electricity will be used in Air Liquide's production of industrial and medical gases in China. The agreement will enable Air Liquide to produce gases with a lower carbon footprint at competitive prices, and customers can use more renewable content in their end products.
