AES Corporation, through its Chilean unit AES Gener, has submitted the environmental impact statement (EIS) for the proposed 63 MW Cerro Piedra wind farm with a battery storage project in Chile with an estimated investment of about US$75 million.
The project will consist of nine wind 7-MW turbines, which will have a hub height of 170 m and with blades of approximately 85 m in length, reaching a rotor diameter of 170 m. In addition, it will have a control and warehouse building, an electrical building, a disconnecting electrical substation, a battery-powered electrical storage system (BESS), a meteorological tower, internal roads, an underground electrical network, and a wastewater management system.
The electrical energy generated in the wind turbines will be evacuated at a voltage of 33 kV and transported underground to the electrical substation of the plant, from where it will be evacuated at a voltage of 66 kV to the Electric Transmission Line of 66 kV Laguna Verde - San Antonio, by means of a disconnecting electrical substation and two aerial sectional LTE of 83 and 92 m in length.
The project is set to be installed in the commune of Casablanca, in the Valparaíso Region, Chile.
