Dutch developer Lion Storage has secured an irrevocable building permit for its 364 MW/1457 MWh battery energy storage (BESS) project located in the Vlissingen port, in the southwestern Netherlands.
Lion Storage's flagship BESS project, Mufasa, has reached a significant milestone with the irrevocable granting of its building permit. With a power output of 364 MW and a capacity of 1457 MWh, Mufasa is set to become the largest utility-scale BESS in the Netherlands once operational. The project will be strategically located in the Vlissingen Port (North Sea Port), a burgeoning energy hub in the southwestern Netherlands. It will have direct access to TenneT’s high-voltage grid and be situated near several large-scale hydrogen electrolysis and offshore wind projects under development. Commercial operations are slated to begin in 2026.
The 24th and final nearshore turbine has been installed for the Windplanblauw wind farm located in the northwest corner of the province of Flevoland in the Netherlands.
