Ørsted and Nuveen Infrastructure has installed the first wind turbine at the 913 MW Borkum Riffgrund 3 offshore wind farm in Germany.
The first wind turbine was installed by the vessel ‘Seaway Ventus’ from Seaway 7, with further installations to be carried out by ‘Wind Osprey’ from Cadeler. The project will see 83 Siemens Gamesa turbines, each with an 11 MW capacity, installed approximately 72 km off the coast of Lower Saxony, Germany, covering an area of about 75 km². Following the successful power delivery from the 253 MW Gode Wind 3, Borkum Riffgrund 3, constructed by Ørsted and Nuveen Infrastructure, is expected to be commissioned in 2025.
The project is Ørsted's first offshore wind farm in Germany without an offshore substation. Instead, the turbines will connect directly via 66 kV cables to the DolWin epsilon offshore converter platform, managed by TenneT.
