Hansainvest Real Assets has inaugurated a 605 MW solar plant in Witznitz, near Leipzig, Germany. The plant is located at the former brown coal open cast mine Witznitz II.
Move On Energy, the plant's developer, plans to add an additional 45 MW to the location by summer 2024. The facility's groundbreaking ceremony was held in June 2022, it was completed in less than two years.
The project consists of 1.1 million solar modules spread across a total area of 500 ha and operates under a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Shell Energy Europe. The solar plant can generate 575,000 MWh of energy, enough to power 192,000 households and can offset 217,350 tonnes of CO2 each year.
