Iberdrola Deutschland and O2 Telefónica have signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) covering energy from the 476 MW Baltic Eagle wind farm in the German Baltic Sea, off the island of Rügen. Under the terms of the agreement, O2 Telefónica will get 3,000 GWh of renewable energy over a 15-year period enough to power around 8,000 of O2 Telefónica’s current 28,000 mobile phone stations.
The project will have 50 wind turbines of 9.53-MW of unit power on monopiles, for an annual production of 1.9 TWh, sufficient to meet the needs of 475,000 homes and avoid the emission of almost one million tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere every year. It features MVOW V174 wind turbines with 174-m rotor blade diameter — whose swept area is 23,778 m2, equivalent to 3.3 football fields — and a hub elevation of 107 m above sea level.
The construction of the wind farm started in 2022 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
SeaRenergy was chosen to provide the Marine Coordination Service for EnBW’s He Dreiht project during the construction phase of the wind farm in Germany.
