Jera Co and its development partners have inaugurated the 376 MW Formosa 2 offshore wind project at the Waipu Fishing Port in Miaoli County, Taiwan. The farm, installed between 4 to 10 kilometers off the coast of Zhunan Township, is expected to supply alternating current power to approximately 380,000 households.
All 47 of the project's Siemens Gamesa 8 MW wind turbines were installed within the stipulated time frame and connected to the grid in March. Officially inaugurated after all testing work has been completed; the Formosa 2 has become a significant milestone as the first to be completed after the pandemic in Taiwan and also the first Round 2 offshore wind farm.
The Formosa 2 is a collaborative development effort by JERA (49%), Macquarie Asset Management's Green Investment Group (26%) with support from its portfolio company, Corio Generation, and Synera Renewable Energy (25%). The project has been a significant boost in securing cleaner energy to help Taiwan achieve its carbon reduction goals.
