Liontown Resources has awarded Zenith Energy a build-own-operate contract for the development of a 95 MW hybrid solar photovoltaic (PV), wind, and battery energy storage system at its Kathleen Valley Lithium Project in Western Australia.
The hybrid power plant will have 30 MW of wind capacity, 16 MWp of fixed-axis solar PV, and a 17 MW/19 MWh battery energy storage system. The thermal energy component will consist of 27 MW of gas generating and 5 MW of diesel backup generation.
With the thermal components of the power plant built to run in engine-off mode at times, it is projected that the hybrid power plant will produce at least 60% renewable energy at the start and up to 100% during periods of high wind and solar radiation.
