Sweden has granted Vattenfall approval to lay underwater cables for the 640 MW Krieger's Flak offshore wind project in the southern Baltic Sea. The installation must be finished within a decade. Vattenfall is expected to make a final investment decision on the project in 2025.
The cables for the offshore wind project must be placed on the continental shelf within Sweden's maritime territory and economic zone. The Swedish government has set certain conditions that regulate how the construction works should be carried out to protect the environment against damage and ensure safety.
The decision to approve Vattenfall's underwater cables for the offshore wind power project at Krieger's Flak has been made in line with Sweden's strategy to achieve 100% renewable energy production by 2040. The Swedish government hopes to promote the transition to renewable energy by supporting offshore wind power projects like Krieger's Flak.
