The government of Canada has announced US$19 Million to support Electricity Modernization in Prince Edward Island, Canada.
Maritime Electric Company's US$47.6-million initiative aims to enhance the Island's electricity grid. By implementing advanced metering infrastructure, potential outages can be swiftly detected and power restored efficiently. This upgrade will also generate more accurate usage data, ensuring predictable electricity bills. Additionally, the project contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promotes the efficient use of renewable energy sources.
Funding from Canada's Smart Renewables and Electrification Pathways Program (SREP) supports this endeavor, with Budget 2023 allocating nearly US$3 billion to the program, alongside an estimated US$26 billion for the Clean Electricity Investment Tax Credit.
