The U.S International Development Finance Corporation has approved a USD 126 million loan to finance a 31.4 MW geothermal project in East Java, Indonesia.
The plant is expected to provide electricity to approximately 77,000 households in East Java. The plant utilizes Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) technology, which is well-suited for low- to medium-temperature geothermal resources like those found in East Java. The ORC system uses a binary fluid, such as pentane or isobutane, which has a lower boiling point than water. This allows the system to generate electricity at lower temperatures compared to traditional steam turbines.
