The UK government has committed GBP 14.2 billion (USD19.1 billion) towards the building of the Sizewell C plant in Suffolk, England, which will be a "replica" of Hinkley Point C featuring two of EDF's EPR reactors.

The EDF-led proposal for Sizewell C involves building two EPR reactors with a combined capacity of 3.2 GW, capable of supplying electricity to approximately six million homes over a lifespan of at least 60 years. The plant will follow a similar design to the two-reactor facility under construction at Hinkley Point C in Somerset, aiming to reduce costs and accelerate delivery by leveraging lessons learned from the UK’s first major nuclear build in nearly 30 years.

In October 2016, EDF partnered with China General Nuclear (CGN) to advance the Sizewell C project, holding an 80% share while CGN held 20%. By November 2022, the UK government invested £679 million (USD 845 million), becoming an equal partner with EDF, each holding a 50% stake. Since then, additional government funding has been announced, and EDF has stated that it intends to reduce its involvement, aiming to retain no more than a 20% stake at the point of the final investment decision.
