Croatia's first geothermal power plant has started operation. The 17.5 MW Velika Ciglena geothermal power plant was supplied by Turboden and is now the largest ORC system in the EU. The plant was developed and is operated by Geoen-MB Holding.

The Velika Ciglena project exploits steam and hot water at 170°C to produce electricity to feed the local power grid.

The region of Velika Ciglena is situated in Bjelovar subdepression, the north east of Croatia.

The plant carried out the nominal load test after four days of commissioning.
