German industrial manufacturer Thyssenkrupp and energy developer Steag have partnered to develop a 500 MW hydrogen electrolysis production plant Thyssenkrupp's steel production facility in Duisburg in Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany.
The HydrOxy Hub Walsum project is envisioned to facilitate the renewable energy transition of the steel production plant. Thyssenkrupp and Steag are currently seeking to have the project be recognized as an Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI) and to attract investments from federal and state funds.
Once the final investment is secured by 2023, the project will be connected ot the electric grid by 2025.
