Edison Next, a company under the Edison Group, has signed a 20-year onsite power purchase agreement (PPA) with Berco, a ThyssenKrupp Group company specializing in the manufacture of undercarriage components and systems for tracked earthmoving machinery, for the development of a 7.1 MWp solar project in the province of Ferrara, Emilia-Romagna, Italy.

The partnership aims to promote sustainability, with Edison Next responsible for the design, construction, management, and maintenance of the ground-mounted photovoltaic plant at Berco's Copparo site. The plant will generate approximately 11,000 MWh of renewable electricity per year, covering 9% of the plant's electricity needs.

The new ground-mounted photovoltaic plant, covering an area of 96,000 m², is composed of 70 inverters and 11,600 PV modules mounted on both single-axis tracking structures and fixed structures. Through the 20-year PPA, the plant will contribute to the reduction of energy costs and the environmental impact by avoiding more than 3,800 metric tons of CO2 emissions per year, which is equal to the amount absorbed by around 115,000 plants.

The plant is set to contribute to the sustainable development of production sites and reduce reliance on carbon-based energy.
