The construction of a US$5 billion green hydrogen project will start this month at Saudi Arabia's futuristic Neom mega-development. The plant is expected to be the world's largest producer of hydrogen from renewable sources when it is finished in 2026.
The project is being built by Air Products, which signed a contract for the project in July 2020. It will use 4 GW of wind and solar power to produce more than 650 tonnes of hydrogen per day from 120 Thyssenkrupp electrolysers, each measuring around 40 meters in length.
Site preparation work has been ongoing, giving way to the construction stage.
