Salzgitter AG has started the commercial operation of the Wind Hydrogen Salzgitter – WindH2 project in Lower Saxony, Germany.
The project generates hydrogen using energy from a 30 MW wind farm. Salzgitter has collaborated with E.on Group member Avacon AG and Linde Plc for the construction of the facility. Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH has installed two units of Siemens 1.25-MW Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyser.
The project represents about EUR50 million (US$59.23 million) of investment with EUR1.1 million (US$1.31 million) subsidy received from Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs.
