The Government of Tanzania has signed a EUR130 million (US$154.28 million) loan with the French Development Agency (AFD) for the development of a solar photovoltaic project in the Shinyanga region.
The solar PV power plant will be built in the Kishapu district. It will be the Singida-Shinyanga 220 kV High Voltage line and can produce up to 91,600 MWh of energy per year. Once operational, the project is expected to generate enough energy to offset up to 22,400 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
The first phase of the project will have a 50 MW capacity and the completed facility will have a total generating capacity of 150 MW.
